GPTU Minutes 14/10/2009
  1. Minutes 20/8/2009: Accuracy; several typos needed correction and amendments made to remove ambiguity i.e. phrases like "I think we agreed" changed to "Agreed."
  2. Minutes 20/8/2009: Matters Arising
    1. John Carver still needs to be replaced as a cheque signatory.
    2. Has Sue Tibbles written to Unison in support of Unison 4?
    3. Possibility that a GP candidate in Birmingham could stand down in favour of S.Yacoob (Respect).
    4. List of Trades Union Councils may be available from TUC, Sue Tibbles may have one?
    5. Ask Romayne Phoenix re GPTU presence at AGC AGM.
    6. Agreed to approach Jim Jepps re article on Vestas, SOAS and other GPTU concerns.
  3. Report back from GP conference
    1. Successful fringe on Welfare rights (video clips on blog http://gptublog.blogspot.com/)
    2. )Plenary on just transition with C.Lucas, C.Baugh (PCS) & and Chris Rapley (Director, Science Museum), chaired by Romayne Phoenix video clips at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlByCztK3Y8.
    3. Gptu supported motions passed (some with amendment) : Afghanistan, Co operatives, (1 motion only), Rape Crisis Centres (with amendment), nationalisation of ports and Education working paper .
    4. Emergency motions on SOAS and removals of migrant workers passed
    5. Vestas mentioned in Leader´s and Deputy Leader´s speeches.

  4. Vestas;
    1. Caroline vested ´magic roundabout´ on 9/10/2209 see report on GPEW site.
    2. Current concerns over workers taking new jobs and over redundancy payments (see Vetsas blog http://savevestas.wordpress.com/)
    3. Revival of TU activity on IoW reported.
  5. CaCCtu: COIN pamphlet giving Detailed proposals for New green jobs should appear in time for London CaCC march (5/12). Agreed in principle to buy some for stalls. Possibility of spring conference fringe to launch pamphlet discussed.
  6. Minga Demo on 12/10 visited several embassies in London (Eg Colombia, Spain), joined agro-fuels demo at DECC. Calls for end to EFTA, deforestation and land seizures. Indigenous activists reported to have been executed in Peru.
  7. STW march on 24 October, GP participation encouraged
  8. Finances and fundraising
    1. c£150 in bank.
    2. New Treasurer´s address still not recognized. PM had asked for forms AGAIN; possibility of changing bank to be discussed at next meeting.
    3. John Carver´s and Sue Tibbles´ donation of expenses for Oxford meeting noted. P. Murry donated banner and website costs . Vote of thanks.
    4. Reprint of pamphlets/new pamphlets. AH to investigate possibility of GP funding.
  9. Motion to London Federation

    "GPTU welcomes the launch of a Red/Green Alliance by Battersea & Wandsworth Trade Union Council inclusive of trade unionists and environmental activists and campaigns. It urges all GPTU and GP members in Battersea & Wandsworth to participate in it. It also urges all GPTU members to encourage their local Trade Union Council to take similar initiatives asap."

  13. Tamil rally 17/10/2009 Romayne Phoenix and A. Hewett to attend.
  14. CWU dispute. Agreed to call for support for picket lines at London fed (if dispute goes ahead)
  15. London Met University dispute. P. Murry to seek info and post to blog and list.
  16. Free Public Transport Campaign noted as a basis for discussion which could lead to an radical transport policy.
