GPTU Meeting Minutes: Wednesday 20/5/2010 Royal Festival Hall, Southbank, London SE1 6.30pm.

Present: Andy Hewett (chair). Joseph Healy (Treasurer), P.Murry (minutes), Zain Sardar. John Carver. Farid Bakht.

1. Minutes of & GPTU Meeting: Wednesday 24/3/2010:matters arising not on agenda
   1. GPTU REPORT to Green party regional Council 2010 by Joseph Healy: now posted on blog
   2. no news re website update
   3. Further news re A.Durango awaited
   4. JC Piedra Tribunal expected on (15//5/10???) AH to get further details
   5. Manifesto had been strengthened on support for Campaign Against Anti-TU Laws (Is a conference motion on this needed? Subscription may need renewing?)
   6. Visits Tom Paine´s House , Lewes (JC to invstigate), Headcorn (JH)
   7. PM to draft model mortion on education cuts
   8. disability Motion(?)
   9. How definite/permanent was the reprieve of Whittington A&E?
   10. Is N.Lynch organizing meeting with FBU rep?
   11. Some GP office staff ahd joined GMB.
   12. On-line Links to Housmans Booksop still neede to be set up.
   13. New Workers´ Rights leaflets and PDF available from AH.
2. Treasurers´s report: statements being sent £:144.25 in bank. Fundraising (via quiz & Trades Councils needed).
3. Election; a definitive analysis of GP performance needed (AH to see if GPEX had done one). Estimates were that nationally the vote had reduced . In London the ´left of Labour´vote seemed to have collapsed.
4. Conference
   1. PM could not help with stall due to SOC duties etc , (liaison with Birmingham comrdes needed (AH?)
   2. More conference motions needed asap.
   3. Fringes :Education Cuts with speakers from UCU, NUT, NUS (AH to contact JS re booking slot), International TU Fringe (PMacC)
   4. Conference elections see members site for details.
5. Other activities
   1. meeting with PCS rep on Barnet trdes Council (?)
   2. stall at Counterfire rally (addressed by C.Lucas & T.Benn) 26/5/20107
6. BA dispute. Union has won appeal. Info needed re picket lines etc
7. Middx philosophy dep´t occupation: More info needed.
8. After discussion the meeting aggreed to support the candidature of Paul Holmes in Unison gen Sec election.JH to draft statement outlining reasons for this.
9. Messsage of support to PMacC to be drafted.
10. Some ´dissident´ Irish greens monitoring effects of EU policies (inc 15% public sector pay cuts & unemployment benefit cuts)
