GPTU Minutes of 1 May 2009
  1. Minutes of 15/4/2209: Agreed for accuracy
  2. Matters arising
    1. Andrew Collingwood reported to feel that a re statement of support not appropriate at present.
    2. GP Conference would now run Thu-Sun new dates are 3 to 6 /9/2009.
    3. Protests re re-location of Oxford depository, meeting next week.
    4. CCTU meeting 25/4/2009 minutes posted on GPTU & GL lists.
    5. Green Left meeting 18/4/2009 successful. Minutes to be posted on GL website after approval by steering committee. The meeting endorsed the GPTU statement re NO2EU.
    6. GP Blackpool Conference report; Objections to Optimum Population Trust stall conveyed to Cllr Maya de Souza and Elise Benjamin, need to be followed up. Noted that BNP website is alleged to have cited J. Porritt´s views on population.
  3. Finances & Fundraising.
    1. £169 in bank.
    2. Statements still need to be sent to Treasurer
    3. Small saleable items could be donated for stall at Levellers´ day.
  4. New banner design approved, (on Blog), thanks and complements to Romayne Phoenix. £100 agreed from funds, extra to be raised by appeal. Agreed to proceed.
  5. Recent activities
    1. Workers´ Memorial Day, (pictures on Blog)
    2. UNITED CAMPAIGN AGAINST POLICE VIOLENCE (Andy Hewett attending meetings)
    3. CaCC demo against coal fired power station proposals
    4. Low wage demo at London Uni Bloomsbury campuses
    5. Strangers into Citizens march. (NB LAST TWO ITEMS TOOK PLACE AFTER meeting)
  6. Future activities
    1. Levellers Day, arrangements tbc
    2. Tolpuddle, arrangements tbc
    3. Summer meeting/event) 16 August in/ near Manchester to coincide with Peterloo commemoration.
  7. Visteon London and Belfast workers had agreed to compensation terms, their demand for these had been met but jobs lost.
  8. Vestas IoW wind turbine factory closure, GP statement needs to be examined (NB I can find statements by individual GP members on list but no Party statement on GP site)
    1. Fringes ideas discussed included , International (eg Iraqi TU´s, info needed LaborStart suggested), No Sweat, Behind the Label, sex pay differentials
    2. Stall: noted that there needs to be rota and written guidelines for personning throughout conference.
    3. Motions invited ideas discussed included, International (eg Iraqi TU´s, info needed, LaborStart suggested), low paid workers on benefit.
    4. TU stalls would be easier to get a response when there was not a clash with TUC conference. PCS cold be asked.
  9. UCU dispute: thanks to Andrew Collingwood for offer of report on outcome of ballot. Fears expressed re general assault/cutback of HE, especially new units.
  10. SERTUC Disability Seminar: Alan Wheatley to send out report of talk by Paul Treloar re new gov´t legislation
  11. RMT lobby of Parliament 5/5/2009 support urged

    1. Manchester Greens and others planned protest against NO2EU.
    2. Andy Hewett to prepare briefing of points against
