GREEN PARTY TRADES UNION GROUP. MINUTES Wednesday 19th March 2008

  1. .Minutes of 31/1/08 and Minutes of AGM at Conference; Agreed for accuracy
  2. .Matters arising
    1. No further info re Viking Ferries
    2. Min-max wage motion and disabled workers motions not taken at conference due to lack of time/position on conference agenda.
    3. Emergency motions re corporatisation of GP’s and re disabled workers passed, but problems with lack of activity from GPEX, (see below).
    4. Caroline Lucas to address GMB. (P.Murry has enquired, the meeting is a GMB organised fringe)
    5. P.Murry emailed P. MacCafferty re morning Star conference. (email sent 20/3/08).

    6. Romayne Phoenix had been elected to CCCTU organising Committee.
  3. .Finances
    1. New Treasurer (J.Healy) appointed at AGM, P.Murry contacted bank to get necessary forms.
    2. P.Murry had contacted N.Walsh to get chequebook and other documents re bank acct.
    3. Expenses P.Murry had paid Hillingdon Greenprint £55 for leaflet printing with personal cheque, original GPTU cheque needed to be traced.
    4. Banner, Quote had been sought form Greenwich banner maker but no reply, Andy Hewitt/ Noel Lynch to resend address to P.Murry. agreed to proceed with banner ASAP.
    5. Agreed to apply to GPEX for a grant in May. Ideas for expenditure sought at April meeting (NB GPTU receives a number of pro bono goods and services ie website, blog, photocopying).
  4. Visit to GPRC no reply to Andy Hewitt, Andy to repeat proposal. Agreed that John Carver and P.Murry should use AGM minutes as a basis for report to GPRC.
  5. Visit to GPRC (Annual Report/Note for GPRC on last year´s activities.)
  6. Aldermaston (12 noon Easter Monday - 24th March, Atomic Weapons Establishment Aldermaston see http://www.cnduk.org/aldermaston/) for details of travel.
  7. Remploy; P.Murry had had reply from P.Hain´s Office to be circulated on blog, statement from McDonnell re resignations noted.
  8. Shelter : statements in support of strikers issued by Derek Wall. Notice of strikes a previously been sent at short notice, more info needed.
  9. CATP / negotiations with RMT
    1. (mentioned in GLA manifesto: "Protection from station closures and proper staffing of stations - working alongside the Campaign against Tube Privatisation.")
    2. Leafleting dates:
      • Tuesday, 25 March: 8-9.30a.m West Hampstead
      • Wednesday, 26 March: 4.30-6p.m Finsbury Park
      • Monday, 31 March: 8-9.30a.m Turnpike Lane
      • Wednesday, 2 Apri:4.30-6p.m Latimer Road
    3. CATP meeting for supporters will be at the Exmouth Arms, Starcross St, NW1 on Monday, 21 April 7-8.30p.m. (Euston Br and Euston Square tube)
    4. Darren Johnson reported to be meeting Bob Crow re election. The meeting resolved to ask that Romayne Phoenix be invited to this meeting and any similar meetings with TU´s as GPTU spokesperson. (P.Murry emailed Darren Johnson)
  10. Civil Service Disputes; P.Murry has requested info from PCS contact.
  11. Brighton summer event; the meeting agreed that this should be a one day event on a Saturday in Late June, (preferred), or early July. We should ask Phelim to proceed with finding and booking a venue ASAP. We should also initially approach; the following as possible speakers: Caroline Lucas, Tony Kearns (CWU), a Shelter TU speaker, and Garry Vaux or another speaker on the privatisation of workfare (Alan Wheatley to do latter).
  12. Mayday to be monitored with a view to participating in Clerkenwell march/demo
  13. SE London health rally Saturday 29/3/2008: Assemble at All Saint´s Church, Montpelier Vale, Blackheath, London SE3 11am, then Walk to Ladyfields Park for Rally.
  14. Alan Wheatley expressed disappointment with the lack of action from GPEX on the emergency motion re re disabled workers passed at conference. He suggested that the party in general concentrated its attention too much on higher income groups, and was not paying enough attention to the extremely profitable industry growing up around the privatisation of welfare. It was also noted that whilst GPEX had been prompt to replace its Publications Co-Coordinator the post of Disability Co-Coordinator remained vacant.
  15. P.Murry to liaise with Sue Tibbles re date of next meeting new venue needed.
  16. Next GP conference to be in London at SOAS 5-8/9/2008; Discussion of Jeremy Dear (NUJ) and Tony Kearns (CWU) as possible speakers.
