MINUTES GPTU Meeting 15/1/2010

  3. Matters arising from Minutes 26/11/10
    1. Speech by Cristian Dominguez, the National Secretary of Environment and Resources of CSUTCB (Confederacion Sindical Unica de Trabajodores Campesinos de Bolivia) United Confederation of Peasant Workers of Bolivia, on GPTU blog.
    2. No progress yet with web redesign.
  4. Finances and Fundraising
    1. £148.93 in bank
    2. Change of address forms now signed and handed to bank (20/1/10)
    3. Items for sale on stall needed.
  5. Hands of my workmate Motion passed UNAN. NEM CON

    "Green Left agrees to support the ´Hands off my Workmate´ campaign, which aims to prevent the use of Immigration law and the Borders Agency by employers to intimidate migrant workers, especially those who seek to exercise their rights to join and organise Trades Unions."

    Motion and HOMW aims to be posted to blog.

  6. Conference
    1. Motions & amendments. GPTU supports: C24 A fair deal for pensioners, C25 Reducing income inequality, C27 Military policy following Lisbon and amendment to Fiscal policy motion signed by A.Hewett, K.Burgess, Sally Thompson, J.Healy, T.Delaney.
    2. Stall arrangements GPTU members needed to run conference stall.

  7. Campaign against Climate Change TU Group Conference at Camden Community school, March 13 see http://cacctu.wordpress.com/for further details and to download conference flyer. GPTU agreed to make a £20 donations to CACCTU and to pay for a stall at the conference,
  8. BA Dispute:
    1. the effects of the legal verdict ( Xmas 2009) discussed.
    2. ballot taking place results due on 22/1/10

  9. Union membership for GPEW National Office staff, it was agreed that:
    1. this should be encouraged (in line with previous policy)
    2. soundings be taken as to most appropriate TU
  10. Green left meetings
    1. 23/1/2010 11:00 to 17:00 John Dalton Building, Oxford Road, Manchester: Climate and Capitalism organised by Socialist Resistance jointly with the Green Left 10.30 am. This day school in Manchester from 10.30-5.30 at John Dalton Building includes an open plenary talk by Joel Kovel and morning and afternoon workshops. Speakers also include Terry Conway from Socialist Resistance and Gayle O´Donovan from the Green Party. Leaflets at www.discourseunit.com/ccfront.pdf and www.discourseunit.com/ccinner.pdf
    2. 25/1/10 Lucas Arms, Grays Inn Road, at 7pm on Monday 25 January: Joel Kovel will be speaking at a London Federation/Green Left meeting at the Lucas Arms, Grays Inn Road, at 7pm on Monday 25 January. Joel talking about his book, "The Enemy of Nature, Overcoming Capitalism or the End of the World?" the situation post Copenhagen, and anything else people want to discuss.

  11. NUT/UCU statement for election candidates discused there were some reservations re specifying class sizes, but the recommendation was for GP candidates to sign.
